As we celebrate Earth Hour this March, SM Supermalls in North Luzon proudly spotlight their innovative commitment to sustainability through the solar panels installed across several locations, including SM City Tuguegarao, SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown, SM City Cauayan, SM City Urdaneta Central, SM City Cabanatuan, SM City Bataan, SM City Clark and SM Center Pulilan.

The integration of solar energy into these malls has brought about a significant leap towards energy efficiency and cost savings. By tapping into the sun’s renewable power, these malls have reduced their reliance on conventional energy sources, leading to a more sustainable operation. This shift not only contributes to long-term cost savings but also aligns with global efforts to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to energy savings and environmental benefits, the installation of solar panels plays a crucial role in mitigating power shortages. A remarkable highlight of this initiative is the recognition received by SM City Tuguegarao and SM Center Pulilan. Last year, the said malls were honored at the EEE Awards for Energy Management in Industries and Buildings in the New and Existing Building Category. This recognition was awarded to SM City Tuguegarao for achieving an impressive energy savings of 1,188,259.33 kWh through its solar power generation, which became operational on December 16, 2023. This achievement not only underscores the effectiveness of solar energy in reducing operational costs but also sets a precedent for other establishments to follow.

This 2025 marks the 17th year of SM Supermalls' participation in the Earth Hour Campaign, reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability.
